This month on Rampart Talks I’ve diverged radically from my prior line-up of Australian business leaders. My latest guest is Ruthie Rogers, best-selling author, celebrity podcaster and proprietor of celebrated London restaurant, the River Café.
These things are subjective, but in my eyes, the River Café is the world’s best restaurant and it has played host to some of my happiest memories. I’ll never forget spending an entire dinner conversing with my friend Ross only in Simply Red lyrics while Mick Hucknell was seated at the next table; or my 40th birthday, when Paul McCartney and Harrison Ford were sharing a spliff in the garden while my mate Batch chatted up Nigella Lawson.
Ruthie’s energy is seemingly boundless, as she criss-crosses the Atlantic promoting her latest cookbook Table 4 at The River Café and interviewing illustrious guests for her own podcast Ruthie’s Table 4. Only in March, she was a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, but now she’s properly hit the big-time with Rampart Talks.
Ruthie and I sat down four weeks ago at the River Café on a stunning spring day in London and traversed the 40-year history of the restaurant, and the march into the mainstream of the farm-to-table movement; the discombobulation of the Covid pandemic; her time in Australia (her late husband, star architect Richard Rogers, designed Sydney’s Barangaroo South district); and even her despair at the Trump administration (she was born in the United States and remains a citizen).
There is so much more in this episode, so I encourage you to access the full version, which runs for 51 minutes. The full version is only available to Rampart’s premium subscribers, who can watch on rampart.news or listen via Spotify or Apple Podcasts (if you haven’t already activated this integration with your preferred podcast app, you can do so here).

I hope you enjoy it.
Cheers,
